How I Work

You've taken a courageous step in broaching working with a therapist! I intend to honour that choice should you choose to work with me.

I work with adults; in London (in person in counselling rooms near London Fields, E8, or Sydenham, SE26); and with clients around the U.K. and Internationally purely online. For online sessions we'll meet
via secure video call on Google Meet). I also offer walk-and-talk therapy (depending on the time of year), outdoors in nearby London Fields or Victoria Park, Hackney or Crystal Palace Park, near Sydenham.

Sessions are always 50 minutes long. We'll meet weekly at the same time of day/evening. I meet with clients during the day, some evenings and potentially at weekends.

We can meet for a set number of sessions or on an ongoing basis.

There is flexibility around all of the above - please get in touch to discuss.

My Approach

I'm an Integrative Therapist, which means I flex to create the most appropriate - unique - approach for you, drawing on a varied toolbox of therapeutic methods. As a BACP member, my practice adheres to a stringent, protective Code of Ethics.

I work collaboratively. During our time together,
I'll check-in with you every so often so we can discuss; how you feel counselling is going; whether your goals have changed and whether we might tweak the therapeutic approach accordingly.

I believe that you are the expert in you - though it may not feel that way at times. I'm there to walk alongside you and facilitate your therapeutic journey. Fundamentally, I aspire to provide a trusting, supportive and inclusive counselling relationship - where you feel truly heard.

I'll work sensitively in relation to your context. We each exist in unique cultures; intersections of factors influencing how we are and act in the World; ethnicity; gender; sexuality; expression; socioeconomic status - even political or environmental influences
.Your context will inform the way we work.

I provide a LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapeutic space and, by extension, am a QTIPOC ally.

I work creatively, intuitively. Decades of working as an artist and in User-Centred Design have infused my approach to counselling. I believe that you, everyone, is a 'creative'; has their own individual spark that can be kindled to fuel healing and transformation.

I combine the creative instinct with established - and evolving psychotherapeutic theory and practice...

Technically, I work from a Humanistic orientation.

We'll explore what's happening for you in the present, though mindful of your past and your future.

I meet you as a human being (in 'I-Thou' relation) - holistically - with respect, non-judgement, compassion and curiosity. I acknowledge but will not regard you only as a collection of 'problems', 'symptoms' or 'diagnoses'.

Furthermore, I'll pay attention to our universal - and your individualExistential challenges.

I'll work with you so that you feel more equipped to navigate challenging thoughts, feelings and situations. We may work with simple but powerful ideas and exercises which may include aspects of Mindfulness.

I'll partly work with you using Gestalt Psychotherapy techniques; namely 'Creative Experiments' to; heighten Awareness; bring clarity around what may be getting in your way and to reveal new possibilities.

Depending on your needs, we may work Somatically (utilising the wisdom held in the body; the capability for sensation to reveal meaning and facilitate healing). I also sometimes use Sand Tray Therapy techniques (E8, in-person only).

Other times we may employ pragmatic tools from CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) - depending on your preferences, needs and goals.

I am also drawn to aspects of
Eco-Therapy; considerate of how re-attuning with the Natural World can have distinct benefits for our individual - and collective - Well-being.

Whichever direction we take, it'll be in a way and at a pace that's right for you.

Why Unusual Uses?

The name of my counselling practice is a playful reference to creative brainstorm techniques for encouraging divergent thinking - which are in turn based on an experiment by psychologist J.P. Guilford.

The term encapsulates my creative approach to counselling; that even in the midst of experiencing psychological and emotional turbulence, there are always possibilities in terms of how one can creatively respond; evolve and flourish!
